A Daily Process for Using Rewire: 5 Steps to Support Nervous System Awareness
Understanding your nervous system is the first step toward reclaiming energy, clarity, and emotional balance. Rewire — a heart-shaped Himalayan salt crystal that changes color in response to your heart rate — isn’t just a beautiful ambient light. It’s a simple, powerful tool for visualizing your body’s internal rhythms. Here’s a 5-step daily process to help you make the most of Rewire and cultivate heart-centered awareness.
Rewire heart colors: 7 heart rate levels ♥️🧡🩷💚🩵💙💜. Click the “i” in the Rewire app heartbeat tool to learn more.
Step 1: Set Your Baseline
(Morning Check-In)
Each morning, connect Rewire to your heart rate monitor and allow yourself a quiet 2–3 minutes to sit or lie down in a calm environment. Watch the light settle into the color that represents your baseline resting heart rate. This step isn’t about judgment or optimization. It’s about observation. Just as you might check the weather before stepping outside, this is a moment to “check the weather” inside your body. Are you starting the day with calm energy, or is your system already elevated?
💚 When you first use the Rewire app, you will be prompted to set your baseline. This process is best done in the morning and takes 90 seconds. Once you set your baseline, the crystal heart shows this heart rate range in green. You may reset your baseline anytime by clicking on the gear icon in the heartbeat tool. Rewire only stores your baseline on your own device. Rewire is a simple device, with no battery draining background operation. We encourage you to set a reminder on your phone to complete these steps over the course of 5 days.
Tip: Use this time to breathe deeply and notice how your heart responds to stillness.
Step 2: Notice Transitions (Midday Reset)
🩷 Rewire shines during moments of transition — like moving from work to rest, or from sitting to standing. If you have POTS or another form of dysautonomia, these transitions can be significant.
Take a moment in the late morning or early afternoon to check in with Rewire again. Watch how the color changes when you shift position, begin walking, or pause between tasks. Use what you learn to better pace your energy or recognize patterns you might otherwise miss.
This helps train awareness around subtle shifts in your nervous system, so you can respond with care rather than being caught off guard.
Step 3: Use Rewire as a Feedback Tool
♥️ After a stressful experience — a difficult meeting, a crowded space, or even an unexpected emotional trigger — reconnect to Rewire and observe the color change.
This visual cue gives you immediate, real-time feedback. If the color is elevated from your baseline, try a calming strategy in the Media channels. The Sights and Sounds channels are designed to distract you with sensory inputs that, coupled with diaphragmatic breathing, proper nutrition and hydration, can help shift your attention to a reassuring calm environment. Sometimes just taking a walk is the best way to reset; however, this isn’t often possible. Our hand-curated sensory based media channels are always there for you. Spend a few minutes focused on the sights and sounds as you deepen your breathing. Check in with your body’s needs, do you need water, food? Watch the light return toward your baseline, confirming your body’s ability to self-regulate.
Rewire makes invisible stress visible — and change measurable.
Step 4: Wind Down with Intention
💜 In the evening, use Rewire as a signal to slow down. Before sleep, practice with the breathing ball and a quiet meditation or calming selection from the Sounds channel. Your practice is on present, focused, sensory awareness and deepening while slowing your breathing pattern. Can you lower your heart 1 level below baseline? There is no judgment or need to achieve a certain goal. Replace that drive with curiosity: What calms me? What focuses my attention on the present moment? How do I use my senses to better situate myself; how do I initiate feelings of safety and security? Notice your heart color when you finish your practice. Use this time to reflect on the moments when your nervous system felt supported — and when it didn’t. The more consistently you track, the more your body’s patterns become clear.
When disconnected from your heart monitor, the crystal glow functions as a soft night light — providing visual comfort and supporting a bedtime routine.
Step 5: Record and Reflect
🩵 Before sleep, jot down a quick reflection:
- When did you feel regulated?
- What triggered a shift?
- What helped you return to calm?
Over time, Rewire becomes more than a light — it becomes a mirror for your internal experience, empowering you with the insights needed to adapt, recover, and thrive. Turning on your heart light reminds you to be heart-centered throughout the day, to check-in, to practice self-care and to pay attention to your body’s internal ‘weather’ and just like going out in the rain without a raincoat, Rewire can train you to pay attention to your needs, and practice a healthier response to protect yourself.
